Where Form Meets Light
There’s a quiet poetry in how light dances across silver, catching edges, softening angles, leaving subtle shadows. At Shadow & Line, that magic becomes wearable art, modern jewellery that feels both bold and graceful. Each piece is carefully handmade in Liverpool by Julie MacDermott, inviting you to embrace the beauty of minimalism and the stories that simple lines can tell.
In a world full of fast trends, Shadow & Line reminds us of the elegance of slowing down, choosing with intention, and celebrating the artistry of a well-crafted object.
Where It All Began: A Maker’s Story
Julie MacDermott’s path was anything but ordinary. Trained in fine art and photography, she spent years collaborating with other creatives while raising her two sons. Somewhere between exhibitions and the everyday chaos of family life, Julie found herself drawn to the quiet focus of jewellery design.
In the summer of 2020, she transformed her home studio into Shadow & Line, a creative sanctuary inspired by urban architecture, light, and the subtle stories of the everyday. Her mission was simple yet powerful: to design modern, sustainable jewellery that resonates with the calm, confident spirit of those who wear it.
“I love how ordinary spaces, a brick wall, a window frame, can transform into extraordinary shapes when the light shifts,” Julie shares.
From that spark, Shadow & Line has grown into a beloved independent brand, admired for its minimalist aesthetic and heartfelt craftsmanship.

Jewellery, Reimagined
Every piece from Shadow & Line begins with 100% recycled sterling silver, sometimes enriched with gold, shaped by hand into geometric, architectural forms. Triangles, lines, and stacked bands reflect Julie’s fascination with structure and shadow, capturing a sense of strength that feels simultaneously delicate and enduring.
From the carefully brushed finishes to the organic textures inspired by urban surfaces, Shadow & Line jewellery celebrates thoughtful details and sustainability. Pieces are hallmarked for authenticity and made to stand the test of time, embodying a quiet confidence you can wear every day.
“For me, jewellery isn’t about decoration,” Julie explains. “It’s about feeling connected — to place, to memory, to self.”
Rooted in Heritage, Embracing the Future
Though contemporary in style, Shadow & Line’s ethos stands proudly in Britain’s rich tradition of studio jewellery, where artistry and ethics go hand in hand. Julie honours local craftsmanship, using only responsibly sourced materials and time-honoured techniques, helping to build a modern legacy of mindful making.
Her pieces echo a sense of heritage while looking forward, a testament to how old values and fresh ideas can coexist beautifully.
